The round barn is our most unique barn; in fact, Big Timber Barn Company is the only builder in the world constructing this style. Due to our meticulous research, time-honored construction techniques, and high-quality, full-dimension, rough-cut timbers, our round barns authentically replicate a distinctive piece of American history and will stand the test of time.

George Washington built the first known circular barn, a 16-sided structure, in 1792. It took two years to complete the 52’ diameter barn, which had two stories and a walk-out ground floor. While our round barns today most often serve as unique homes, our forefather’s barn was used to mill wheat. A horse on the second story walked in circles, stomping the wheat out of stalks, which fell through cracks in the floor to be collected from the floor below.
